Keywords:
middle construction, Government and Binging Theory, Minimalist Program.Abstract
The article analyzes the major approaches to the study of English middle constructions taking into the account the evolution of generative grammar views. It investigates the structure of middle constructions, features that differentiate them from ergative constructions, the problem of implicit agent presence / absence from the standpoint of Transformational Grammar, Government and Binding theory, Minimalist Program. In conclusions the main contributions of generative theory into the study of middle constructions are generalized and the perspectives of further investigations are outlined.Downloads
