Abstract

The article deals with the ways of argumentation in the texts of contemporary American social and political essays. The main features of metaphor as the instrument of emotional argumentation are identiied. It is revealed that metaphor appears to be a powerful means of inluence. Its ability to create positive/negative image of certain political powers is highlighted.
