This lecture is a part of the General Linguistics course. A brief discussion of each major linguistic paradigm – historical, structural, generative, cognitive, and communicative – employs the same template compatible with the logic of a scholarly research that includes the problem, hypothesis, its verification with particular data and methodology, and the obtained results. This template helps to demonstrate specificity of each linguistic paradigm, and facilitates acquisition of the respective information.
